Working For Better Health in Kentucky

Faculty and students in EKU’s College of Health Sciences have accepted the challenge to improve Kentucky’s health by focusing on the kyhealthnow 2019 goals.
The goals seek to reduce Kentucky’s uninsured rate; reduce the rate of obesity, cancer deaths and cardiovascular deaths by 10 percent; reduce untreated dental decay in children by 25 percent and increase adult dental visits by 10 percent; reduce deaths from drug overdose by 25 percent; and reduce by 25 percent the number of poor mental health days of Kentuckians.
Faculty and staff in the College were challenged to focus their scholarship on the Kentucky health goals. A recent event, “Celebrating Student Scholarship: Improving Kentucky’s Health,” showcased student projects aimed at helping individuals and communities improve health. The inaugural event was held April 30 in the EKU Center for the Arts.
Over the next few years, the college plans to strengthen community partnerships and identify successful health improvement strategies. Interested community members are invited to attend and partner with the College to improve Kentucky’s health.
